Popular ganch carving in Uzbekistan is
embodied with a rich store of ornamental vegetal and geometrical arabesque
constructions, created in the style of plane-embossed carving.
The art and technique of carving on ganch, containing a high percentage of
gypsum, lie in its ability to harden quickly. Ganch is treated in a complex
way, the main processes of which are: kilning, purification, and mixing up
gypsum powder to which gum is added.
The artistic potentialities latent in ganch are divers. There are several
ways of carving two-colored and multi-colored plaster.
The some principle of plane treatment of smooth arabesque patterns of
vegetal and geometrical subject-islimi and girih styles, which are peculiar
to ganch carving, wood carving and painting-sway in painting on ganch.
Particular importance is also attached to the scale of ornamental
forms-large and small patterns. Besides the traditional geometrical ornament
much prominence is given to various nosegays, flowers in pots, blooming
shrubs, and landscapes.
Ganch painting combines contrasting blue, green, yellow, red, pink, orange,
white and black colors.
